403625e433 wcc+w6c_ww: >48B tagged args from place-resolved sources (#38b cont.)
Task #40 (FB3): the #38b MEMORY-class staging only accepted ident /
aggarg_srcaddr-enumerated sources, loud-stopping on a slice-element
arg — the regex run_thread loop-condition shape
is_consuming_inst(re.insts[threads[i].pc]) (regex.ha:602) and B4's
(*p)[i] spelling. The staging now falls back to cgplaceaddr (the F6
resolver) for the slot's source address; the existing word-push
machinery is unchanged. Placed AFTER aggarg_srcaddr so every
pre-#40 shape keeps its asm byte-exact (verified vs a master w6c).

Boundaries kept loud (rule 7): exact-type rvalue (no place to
resolve), sret-class call source (#40-family follow-up), global
tagged let (task #25), variadic element, register-overflow mixing.
Diagnostic re-worded to match: slice-element is wired, rvalue and
unresolvable-place sources are not.

test/929 grows 6 run rows (element source with literal+computed
index, deref-spine, nested re.insts[threads[i].pc] spelling,
element mixed with register args both orders, fn-call index with
two mem args per call — the inner CALL runs inside the mem
pre-pass with the other slot already staged — and global-slice
element, the storage-backed twin of the loud fail_global_src
boundary — all build-fail loud at master) and 1 reject row pinning
the new boundary text on both stages.

cfc2985c61 wcc+w6c_ww: aggregate-field stores via cgplaceaddr (C1.25)
Wire struct/array/tuple field STORE through the C1 assign-resolver
(task #23): structlit rhs materialises into a FRESH-per-use @placescr
slot (the @slicescr discipline — a cached slot is the #31 multi-live
trap) then word-copies to the resolved address; addressable rhs
(ident/global/dot/deref) sources via aggarg_srcaddr with the dest
spilled around the dispatch (#270-1b order). Kept loud: compound on
aggregate, sret call rhs (#234-tail), <=24B call rhs (task #24),
unaddressable literal rhs, ww-only anonymous-struct structinfo miss.

test/wcc/805: +6 rows (40B structlit incl ... autofill, ident+deref
source, nested literal, [3]u8 MOVW/MOVB and [3]u32 MOVL tails,
two same-size stores in one fn pinning fresh-per-use) +3 exact-text
reject rows. Tuple-field row blocked by the pre-existing tuple
param/let-init word-2 drops (tasks #32/#33, documented in-row).
p7b_capstore_only graduates byte-id and runs; p7_composed builds and
runs on cstage, wwstage stays behind the pre-existing #29 asserttyped
bail (verified identical at master with w6c_ww).

32063d0da0 wcc+w6c_ww: >48B tagged by-value args — MEMORY-class two-phase push (#38b)
Task #19 (the #38b residual surfaced by FC2 evidence): a tagged arg
whose slot exceeds the 6-reg convention (>48B) is MEMORY-class per
ref/qbe/amd64/sysv.c:80-85 (inmem) / :411-426 (stack blit). Caller
stages the whole slot below every register-class word (two-phase
push, rightmost-first, leftmost mem arg at 16(BP)); callee registers
the param in place at positive BP offsets with zero prologue bytes;
the merged slot count feeds the existing caller-cleanup ADDQ.
Argument-side mirror of the #38 tagged-sret fix, same classify
machinery (tagged_memarg_size / taggedmemargsize beside their
register-class siblings).

Pre-fix, the exact-typed arg loud-stopped on both stages, but
WIDENING a concrete variant into a >48B param slipped the old guard
silently — cstage pushed one scalar word while wwstage emitted an
uncapped greedy stitch (wrong on both AND cs≠ww, gate-blind). Widen
sources now route through the @tagscr scratch for mem slots.

Loud boundaries kept (rule 7), each with its own diagnostic:
sret-class tagged CALL result as mem-arg source (#40-family
follow-up), global tagged let (task #25, broken at any size
pre-existing), >48B variadic element, and mem-arg + register-
overflow mixing (caller check + callee prologue mirror).

Single commit: caller staging, callee receive, and both stages are
one inseparable ABI class — landing any half alone breaks byte-id
or runtime correctness (the #38 flip precedent); test/929 (15
table-driven rows: 56B/64B slots, widen-slip pin, source shapes,
mixed orders both ways, two-mem call, 200k-call loop, 48B-boundary
absence pin byte-id'd vs master, 5 reject rows pinning the exact
per-guard diagnostic on both stages) rides with it.

d099c29b86 w6c_ww: matchscrutt resolves non-ident index bases via stamped type (fix #48)
Pre-#48 wwstage matchscrutt's N_INDEX arm required ibase.kind ==
N_IDENT; an index over any other base (match (h.xs[i]) = N_INDEX over
N_DOT, the regex fold-2a re.insts[i] shape) returned nil, so cgmatch
dispatched with scrutt=nil — every case arm's variant index clamped to
0 (CMPQ $0) and @match_spill fell to the 16B default. SILENT cs≠ww
runtime-wrong (cstage N_MATCH reads the checker-stamped s->type for
every scrutinee shape, cmd/w6c/cgen.c:7510). The non-ident-base arm now
returns the scrutinee node itself behind an istaggedtype gate — the
stamped-carrier pattern of the #67 N_DOT arm and the #45 cgtypetest
fix — so any base shape resolves the element's tagged tinfo for both
variant indices and spill sizing.

Same-class load half, one commit per the #133-expanded precedent:
cgindex's generic-fallback tagged-element load was the only arm missing
the slot>24 R8 word (both ident arms and cstage cgen.c:9106-9117 have
it), so a >24B-slot element via a non-ident base under-read the cursor
and the now-correctly-sized spill stored stale R8.

928_match_nonident_idx_run pins the repro shape (field-base slice
index, all variants both polarities), the regex shape (56B-slot
inst-like union, payload reads within the 32B cursor per #43), and
ident/array/slice ident-base controls — per row cs==ww byte-id +
runtime via both drivers. w6c/wwdump combined.ww regen'd via canonical
make; selfhost corpus hand-cmp'd cs==ww both stages.

Pre-existing siblings surfaced while probing, NOT folded (rule 11),
reported for filing: (a) cgindex element classification skips N_CALL
bases entirely (mk()[0] — wrong esz + not tagged-classified, cs≠ww,
runtime-wrong, also non-match contexts); (b) `as` on a non-ident
carrier still clamps the variant to 0 (cgtagvariantidx's N_TTAGGED node
gate rejects the stamped carrier; byte-identical to master, the #200
spill fix covered only slot sizing).

c2308a11c7 w6c+w6c_ww: size-keyed @tagscr — one tagged scratch per slot size (fix #44)
A fn mixing two tagged slot sizes smaller-first (regex compile(): 56B
append-element widen then 64B sret return) hit the #15/#26c rule-7
grow-fatal — the single shared per-fn @tagscr is first-use-sized and
its pinned offset can't grow. Key the scratch by slot size instead:
@tagscr<sz>, one first-use-allocated slot per distinct size, all three
sites (widen-store via_outer, widen-push, N_INDEX tagged-element
assign) funnelled through cg_tagscr_slot / tagscradd in both stages.
Single-size fns emit byte-identical asm to pre-fix (control row pinned
+ hand-cmp'd vs master w6c). 736's tagscr_size_grow_fatal fixture
pinned the now-unreachable fatal; converted to a byte-id succ row.
Runtime rows live in 926_tagscr_sizes_run.

4f3967835e w6c+w6c_ww: tagged sret for slot>32B returns (fix #38)
A tagged-union RETURN rides a fixed AX(tag)+DX/CX/R8 cursor (TUPLE_GPCAP
eightbytes = 32B slot); wider slots were silently truncated at the
return crossing — payload word 4+ built in the callee frame and died
there, byte-identical on both stages (gate-blind). Blocks regex fold-2a
((regex | error | nomem) = 64B slot).

Classifier: cg_sret_retsize / sretretsize gain a TY_TAGGED arm
(<= TUPLE_GPCAP*8 stays register-ABI — the (str|nomem)/(s3|bool) 32B
boundary class is pinned unchanged byte-for-byte vs master). Callee:
cgreturn writes the slot through *(@sretarg) via the existing widener
non-BP base (bare return stores the void tag); exact-type 'return f();'
rides the #9 sret-forward. Receive: let/assign/discard reuse the
generic #23/#10 sret protocol; the match scrutinee passes its spill
slot as the sret dest (tagged-specific, no tuple precedent).

This could NOT land as a gate-first interim loud-stop (the planned
#38a): lib/errors/errors.ww errno() already returns a 40B
(errors.error) slot in-tree — the cgenstmt.ww-documented #222 latent —
so a bare gate breaks the build. errno graduates to sret here instead;
errnotest pins it at runtime (its cstage run; the wwstage run was
already failing at master via an unrelated pre-existing indirect-call
arg-classification divergence, reported separately) and test/926's
errno-shaped row reads the previously-dropped tail word on both stages.

The unwired cursor consumers of an sret-class call result loud-stop
(rule 7) rather than read a cursor the callee no longer fills:
widening forward/receive ((A|B)->(A|B|C) mem-to-mem tag-remap, filed
#40), ?/!/is/as operands, argument position, and the >48B tagged-arg
class both stages previously mishandled silently. One-class-one-commit
per the #133 carve-out: post-flip those consumers would read AX (now
the dest pointer) as the tag — a gates-trailing commit would leave a
silently-wrong bisect point, so the flip and its gates are not
separable.

test/926: 15 rows — 56B regex-shaped round-trips (literal/local/
assign/match-scrutinee/forward/str-variant/multi-call), 40B repro +
bare-return-void, the errno-shaped tail-read graduation row, 32B
boundary rows pinned register-ABI by asm sentinel, and 3 loud-stop
rows pinned as build failures on both stages.

5f15eb3d09 w6c+w6c_ww: tagged widen-store struct-literal slice field keeps the 3-word header
The cg_widen_tagged_store / cgwidentaggedstorebp struct-payload arm
gated the 3-word {ptr,len,cap} field store on TY_STR only; a slice-
typed field inside a union-payload struct literal fell to the scalar
tail and silently dropped .len/.cap (the #24 gap's widener twin, both
stages symmetric so byte-id gates were blind). Surfaced by #38's
regex-shaped consumer: wide{xs: []u8, ys: []u8, n} widened into
(wide | error | nomem).

bf1037d8c4 wcc/check+w6c+w6c_ww: materialize array-literal slice-borrow base into per-fn scratch (fix #25 + #31)
A one-step `let xs: []T = [e0,e1,..]` had two faults. #31 (silent, cs!=ww):
the #258 array→slice borrow wrapped the un-addressable N_ARRLIT directly as
the N_SLICE base and cgen never spilled it to a stack slot, so .ptr dangled
(`let xs:[]i32=[10,20,30]; xs[1]` returned the un-stored header 1; []u8/[]str
segfaulted). #25 (over-strict): a slice target fell through to the exact-
element type_eq borrow gate, rejecting bare-int-width ([]u8=[1,2,3]) and str
elements the array-init path coerces.

Fix (re-stamp + per-borrow scratch; both stages byte-identical asm):
 - Checker re-stamps the slice arrlit as [count]T, reusing the array-init
   per-element coercion + range-check (#25): in-range accepts, out-of-range
   loud-rejects. cstage arrlit_init_fits gains a TY_SLICE arm; wwstage
   checkletassign mirrors it and stashes the synthesized [count]T tnode on
   arrlit.lhs (free for N_ARRLIT) so cgen can size the backing NODE-wise
   (elemsizeofc) and count from the tnode's .rhs intlit — the arrlit's own
   value tinfo carries the literal's untyped element (unsized), so node-first
   sizing is required (a cstage/wwstage representation divergence; cstage's
   Type IS sized and reads base->type).
 - cgen materialises the N_ARRLIT borrow base into a FRESH per-borrow
   @slicescr stack slot (distinct slot per borrow: a borrow's backing must
   outlive the lowering, so it can't share a cached @aggargscr/@tagscr-style
   slot — two live borrows would alias one backing; localalloc/local_alloc
   is always-fresh), filled by REUSING the array-init element fill extracted
   from the N_LET path (cstage cg_arrlit_fill_bp, wwstage cgarrlitfillbp —
   same store sequence the byte-id-green `let a:[N]T=[..]` uses, the
   frame-order + store-op guarantee), then LEAQ'd as the base.

Supported ONLY at a `let` init. In call-arg / return / assign position
there is no addressable backing, so both stages LOUD-REJECT ("bind it to a
`let` first") — aligning cstage DOWN to wwstage (which already refused the
untyped arrlit element) per rule-10; this closes #31's silent call-arg
segfault as a compile error. Full non-let support is deferred (#33).

Escape (rule-8 WHY): a `let xs:[]T=[..]; return xs;` returns a slice into a
freed frame slot = dangling, IDENTICAL to the pre-existing named-array
borrow and Hare-consistent (no escape analysis / GC / heap promotion).

Test 953_arrlit_slice_run: 8 accept rows (cstage runtime readback +
cs==ww byte-id, frame-size canary incl.) covering the #31 i32 pin, bare-int→u8
coercion, str readback, the multi-live soundness pin (xs[0]+ys[0]=5, not 8 —
proves fresh-per-borrow), and a mutate-through-borrow proof; 4 reject rows
(out-of-range element + the three non-let contexts, loud in both stages).
Tuple-element slices stay blocked by the pre-existing #30 array-init FATAL.

c490ed3ec1 w6c+w6c_ww: store full slice header for struct-literal slice fields (fix #24)
cg_structlit_fill / cgstructlitfill had a TY_STR arm that stored all
three header words (ptr@+0, len@+8, cap@+16) but no TY_SLICE arm, so a
slice field in a struct literal `cl{ items = b, n = .. }` fell through to
the generic scalar tail and stored only the ptr word — the field's .len
and .cap read 0. str fields (the same 24B {ptr,len,cap} shape) worked;
slice fields silently dropped two words.

Both stages emitted IDENTICAL wrong asm, so the 990-997 byte-id gate was
green on both-wrong; runtime readback is the only correctness net. Same
is_str/is_slice discrimination gap as #10 part-b, here in the
struct-literal field-init path.

A slice is the same 24B header shape as str, so widen the str arm's
guard to TY_STR || TY_SLICE (cstage) / isstrtype || isslicetype
(wwstage) and let a slice ride the already-correct 3-word store. The
TAGGED arm stays ordered before it, so a nullable/tagged slice
(TY_TAGGED) still routes to the widener, not the 3-word store.

Test 689 (table-driven, runtime readback + dual-stage asm byte-id):
slice .len/.cap/.ptr, a scalar field beside/before the slice, a slice at
a non-zero field offset, two slice fields, and a str field beside a
slice (str-arm regression pin). 33/33 ok.

7ca32432b1 w6c+wcc/check: infer [_]T array length from initializer element count (fix #7)
`[_]T = [...]` (canonical Hare array-length inference) silently
miscompiled to a zero-length array: the parser already left the array
type's length child nil as the infer sentinel — distinct from an
explicit [N] — but neither checker stamped the real count, so `len(x)`
returned 0 with no diagnostic (rule-7 silent miscompile). Module-level
was worse on wwstage, where `x.len` on ANY global array (even an
explicit [N]) fell to the SB fallback and mis-emitted `MOVQ len(SB), AX`
(linker: undefined reference to len).

The length lives in the stamped TYPE and cgen already keys stride /
length / data-emission off it, so stamping the inferred count at the one
checker inference point closes it permanently (rob's #7 ruling):

  - check.c clet + module-level N_LET pass-2: count the initializer's
    elements and patch the array type's length (the Sym too, so a later
    x.len reads the inferred alen). No-init / non-array init can't infer
    -> loud error, never a silent zero-length array.
  - check.ww inferarraylen: the wwstage twin — stamp a synthesized
    N_INTLIT length child before resolvewalk caches the array tinfo;
    same loud-error rule. Idempotent for the module-level double-call.
  - cgenexpr.ww cgdot: the missing wwstage arm for a top-level [N]T
    global's .len / .ptr (cstage cgen.c:8011 already had it).
  - cgenutil.ww letslotsize: drop the now-redundant [_] slot-size
    intercept — a workaround for this very bug; the stamped length flows
    through the general slotsize path (rule 7).

Both stages converge byte-identical; new table-driven test 684 covers
[_]int/[_]str/[_]u8 local + module-level, len + element read-back,
dual-stage runtime + asm byte-id, plus three negative no-infer rows.

d39691a3d7 w6c_ww/cgen: size [N]enum element from tinfo not slotsize (fix #8)
wwstage sized a named-enum array element (`[N]tk`, tk = enum i32) as a
raw 8-byte slot instead of its i32 backing (4), via two sibling code
paths that both derived the element width structurally and missed the
enum's underlying size:

  - elemsizeofc (cgenutil.ww) was the odd-one-out among the elem*c
    helpers: elemissignedc/elemisfloatc already read the checker-stamped
    tinfo (t.type_.sub), but elemsizeofc went elemsizeof->primsize->
    slotsize, and primsize("tk")=0 fell through to 8. This drove the
    cgindex READ: `a[i]` strode by 8 (MOVQ) where cstage strode by 4
    (MOVSXD), reading the wrong/out-of-bounds element for i>=1.

  - the array-literal init STORE (cgenstmt.ww) computed its own esz the
    same way (primsize=0 -> stayed at the 8 sentinel, enum is not an
    aggregate), so a local `[N]enum` literal stored at stride 8 into a
    stride-4 frame slot, overrunning it and smashing the saved BP /
    return addr -> wwstage-built binary SEGFAULTED.

Both align UP to cstage, which reads the stamped element size uniformly
(N_INDEX idx_eff(bt)->sub->size; N_LET array-init lu->sub->size,
cgen.c:6387). The read fix brings all four elem*c helpers onto the same
tinfo SSoT; the store fix takes the stamped element size for a narrow
scalar. Closing both close-by-construction at the size source.

No in-tree [N]enum / aliased-narrow element existed before kwtab, so
this was byte-id-gate-blind until now. test/wcc/682_arr_enum_elem.c
pins it table-driven: global+local reads, local init-store, signed
sign-extend, and a frame-smash row, each run through both stages with
exit-code and cstage==wwstage asm-byte-id checks.

688275bfd6 lib,wcc,w6a,w6l: char-literals for remaining source magic decimals (Wave-1) 2026-06-02 21:02:26 +09:00
42dd70dc0c w6c+wwstage: aggregate arg from any non-ident source via the closed addr machinery (#271) — close aggregate-arg family
Passing an aggregate BY VALUE as a call argument worked ONLY for a ≤16B
struct from an IDENT source; every non-ident source — CALL mk(), N_DOT
o.f, N_INDEX a[i], DEREF *p — and every array / >24B-struct (even as an
ident) fell to the scalar default: one PUSHQ for a multi-word aggregate,
stack-imbalancing against the type-based multi-word drain. cs!=ww, both
garbage (f(mk()) cs4/ww236, f(o.f) cs8/ww108, f(a[i]) cs4/ww28, f(*p)
cs4/ww140; arrays + 32B sret struct same).

The arg-pass twin of the #265/#268 let-init copy. A new aggregate-arg
push arm materialises the source into the arg convention: the source
ADDRESS in SI (ident LEAQ / deref operand / dotchainaddr #253 /
&base[i] spine #252-270) then its ceil(sz/8) words pushed high→low; a
CALL receives first — ≤24B in AX/DX/CX pushed straight, >24B sret'd
into a per-fn @aggargscr then pushed from there. The pop-forward drain
gained a matching array / >16B-struct arm and the callee prologue an
is_bigagg receive (ceil(sz/8) GP eightbytes), so caller and callee
agree on the multi-word layout. The ≤16B-struct-IDENT fast path is
untouched (byte-id preserved).

The new-arm exclusion is TYPE-keyed (the stamped tinfo, mirroring
cstage node_isstructarg over args[i]->type), not the name-keyed
structparamsize — a name-keyed gate re-opened the #211/#13 cross-module
same-leaf collision (784 symmetric: an 8B `sa.s` struct whose
name-resolution collides with `sb.s = *vtable` would miss the struct
fast path and wrongly enter the new arm, diverging from cstage's
1-word push). A float-bearing ≤16B struct from a non-ident source
loud-stops in both stages (the #165 SSE eightbyte transport the GP
push/drain can't model; out of scope). A const array/struct `def`
global as an aggregate arg is aligned DOWN to the leaner wwstage
(both loud-stop) per rule-10.

33bd2b1054 wwstage: nested-array outer-index esz = sub-array size (#270-2)
elemsizeofc drilled a 2D `[N][M]T` base's OUTER-index stride down to the
scalar T (the documented elemsizeof FOOTGUN: it bottoms out at the inner
prim size, 4 for [M]u32). The `direct != 8` short-circuit then returned
that scalar size, so wwstage emitted esz=$4 where cstage emits $12 (the
sub-array size, idx_eff(bt)->sub->size = sub.size*elen, type.c:121). The
runtime stayed self-consistent (write+read the same wrong stride) so it
masked until a CROSS-CELL access — a[0][j] and a[1][j] alias.

Fix: detect a nested-array element ([M]T inside [N][M]T) before the
short-circuit and return the element-array tinfo's natural .size, the
sub-array stride. wwstage-only; aligns up to cstage. w6c unchanged.

ebbc3f98c2 w6c+wwstage: array return-by-value via the struct-return ABI (#267 fold-2)
Wire TY_ARRAY into the existing struct-return gates so arrays ride the
same reg-class (<=24B in AX:DX:CX) / sret-class (>24B) path the struct
return ABI already emits byte-identically. No new ABI machinery.

Both stages, uniform gate-widen:
- cg_sret_retsize / sretretsize: +TY_ARRAY (natural size sub.size*len,
  the type table) -> auto-enables sret send/recv + the >24B sret N_IDENT
  word-copy + return-forward, all keyed on the shared sret SSoT.
- cgreturn <=24B reg-send: +TY_ARRAY (N_IDENT scratch word-copy ->
  AX/DX/CX). reg-class return-forward rides the default cgexpr passthrough.
- let-init / assign <=24B recv: +TY_ARRAY (AX/DX/CX sized stores).

struct_float_class stays struct-only: pure-int element arrays only; no
pure-float-array-return consumer exists today.

0afc272f47 wwstage: copy full tagged-element slot for N_DOT/N_INDEX-base index read (#261)
The #259 store fix unmasked a pre-existing latent cs!=ww in the tagged-
element READ via an N_DOT base (`x.o[i]`) / chained N_INDEX base
(`m[i][j]`): wwstage materialized the element as a SCALAR one-word load +
zeroed tag where cstage copies the full tagged slot — silently dropping
the tag/payload-high word (wrong variant). Three sites all keyed off the
same N_IDENT-only gate; cstage classifies TY_TAGGED for ANY base off the
checker-stamped element type. Align wwstage UP:

- cgindex (cgenexpr.ww): the N_DOT/N_INDEX-base arm now sets
  elem_tagged/elem_slot_sz from n.type_ (the stamped element tinfo),
  mirroring cstage cgen.c:8101 — the full-slot copy arms then fire.
- rhstaggedabicall (cgenutil.ww): the N_INDEX branch reads
  typeistagged(src.type_) for any base instead of an N_IDENT-only
  structural lookup, mirroring cstage's src->type keying — fixes the
  let-init / call-arg widen-source spill.
- forwardtagged (cgenstmt.ww): the return-path passthrough gate now
  accepts N_INDEX/N_DOT tagged rhs (which cgexpr materializes into the
  tagged ABI), not just N_CALL — fixes `return x.o[i]`.

read + call-arg + return + chained 2D all close by construction (one
materialization path). cstage unchanged (pure wwstage-align-up). 949
gains 9 #261 rows (i32 + explicit-void variant per shape proves the tag
survives) and flips the two #259 read-back rows to byteid=1.

0f2587d294 w6c+wwstage: struct-array-field slice as call-arg via dotbaseaddr (#257)
An inline slice of a struct `[N]T`-field passed DIRECTLY as a call
argument (`rd(x.o[lo:hi])`) materialized the slice .ptr from the field
VALUE, not its ADDRESS: the pushargs/pushargsrev N_SLICE inline builder's
non-ident else-arm did plain cgexpr(base), so the N_DOT field auto-derefs
(MOVL field,AX used as .ptr) -> callee derefs garbage -> SEGFAULT. The
let-init / assign-rhs / return / hoist-to-local contexts already routed
through the cgslice #252 choke-point; only this call-arg builder kept a
private duplicate. cs==ww both segfaulted identically pre-fix (gate-blind).

Fix (symmetric both stages):
  - route the else-arm through cg_dotbase_addr / dotbaseaddr (the cgslice
    #252 choke-point: array-field-gated, so `[]T`/str/`*T` fields fall
    through to cgexpr; chained inner `o.p.m` handled via its #253 arm);
  - extend the N_IDENT-only esz gate to N_DOT bases, taking the element
    width from the checker-stamped base->type (rule-13 type table), so
    non-u8 call-arg slices scale stride.

Before: `MOVL -8(BP),AX; PUSHQ AX` (field value as .ptr). After:
`LEAQ -8(BP),AX; PUSHQ AX` (field address). cs==ww byte-identical.

Helper note: used dotbaseaddr (not dotchainaddr as first scoped) — it is
the established cgslice choke-point and is array-field-gated, so a slice/
str-typed field base keeps the correct cgexpr header-ptr load; bare
dotchainaddr lacks that gate and would mis-emit the field address for
those. dotbaseaddr already handles the chained `o.p.m` inner via #253.

Tests: test/wcc/949 gains 6 call-arg rows (u8, i32-esz-stride, via-*struct,
chained, + hoist-to-local and bare-local-array controls), each run-
correctness AND cs==ww byte-id.

PROOF-GREP residual: the tagged-union-element indexed-STORE arm
(cgen.c:~4972 / cgenexpr.ww:~5024) is the same N_DOT-base auto-deref shape,
still unrouted in BOTH stages (symmetric, segfaults) — a distinct
consumption axis filed separately; NOT fixed here.

0fb4bae337 w6c+wwstage: store struct-literal array-field init (#249 BUG A)
A struct literal initialising an array-typed field as a local
(`e{ encmap = [..] }`) silently dropped the initializer: cg_structlit_fill
(cstage) / cgstructlitfill (wwstage) had no TY_ARRAY field arm, so the
array field fell to the generic scalar tail — cgexpr the N_ARRLIT (→ AX≈0)
then store one sized word — losing every element. cstage returned 0;
wwstage emitted byte-identical wrong code. (The GLOBAL literal-init path
is unaffected: it goes through emit_struct_lit_bytes, already correct via
#129 A.3.)

Both stages now element-wise store the N_ARRLIT at base+field_off+i*esz,
reusing the proven N_LET array-init shape (cgen.c:8467 / cgenstmt.ww:1393)
for int and float elements plus its `...` repeat fill; esz routes through
the type table (rule 13). str/slice/struct/tagged ELEMENT arrays are the
N_LET path's documented multi-word gap (cgen.c:8462) — converted from the
silent drop to a LOUD rule-7 error in both stages, not left silent.
Symmetric both stages (rule 10), byte-identical .s.

The `...` repeat in a struct-literal array field is checker-unreachable
today (the field type-check rejects `[v...]` length inference — a
separate checker gap); the arm mirrors N_LET's repeat for symmetry.

Test 949_structlit_arrfield_run: +local literal-init reads (idx 0 / last
element), cstage run + cs==ww byte-id.

6fc85f9aaf w6c+wwstage: construct + bind tuple-in-union payload (#242)
A mixed-scalar tuple WRAPPED IN A TAGGED UNION (the (neg, n) shape Hare's
strconv parseint returns, ((bool,u64)|invalid|overflow)) miscompiled three
ways, all gate-blind (no bootstrap tuple-in-union):

(a) cstage CONSTRUCTION: a tuple variant fell through the N_RETURN scalar
    shuffle, which ZEROED tag + payload — the operands were never packed.
    Route the tuple variant through the scratch-slot widen path; add a
    TY_TUPLE arm to cg_widen_tagged_store that packs each element into the
    union payload at the register-ABI 8B stride + sets the variant tag.

(b) wwstage CHECKER: `let (a,b)=t` over a plain tuple ident (the match-
    bound union payload) left the un-annotated binders UNTYPED, so the bin
    node reading them was untyped -> asserttyped abort. The element-type
    distribution only fired for an N_CALL rhs. Consume the rhs tuple type
    for ANY rhs (mirror cstage check.c:2017).

(c) BOTH stages DESTRUCTURE: the register-cursor receive assumes the rhs
    left every element in AX/DX/CX (a call's tuple-return ABI). For a tuple
    IDENT cgexpr loads only word0->AX, so the 2nd binder read a STALE DX.
    Copy each element from the ident's slot at the 8B stride.

Construction is correct at ANY variant position (the resolved tag, not a
default 0); wwstage resolves it via the typeeq core (flatvariantidxt), not
taggedvariantindext whose str/slice shape-fallback would mask a mismatch.

Two rule-7 loud-stops cover shapes this slotted packing can't yet handle,
on BOTH stages, so neither silently miscompiles:

  - a tuple with a SysV-eightbyte-sharing narrow pair (e.g. (i32,i32,u64)),
    caught by the 8+payload > slot-size guard (the eightbyte tuple
    classification is #243);

  - a tuple built from a BARE LITERAL element (`true`/`false`, suffix-less
    `7`). cstage's cg_tag_for_variant can't type the literal (#241), returns
    -1, and loud-stops. wwstage types `true` as bool and `7` as untyped_int,
    so flatvariantidxt WOULD resolve the variant — a program cstage rejects
    but wwstage accepts is the cs!=ww divergence rule 10 forbids. wwstage
    mirrors cstage's CONDITION (a bare-literal element), not its -1
    mechanism, with an explicit guard that aligns the richer side DOWN. Lift
    BOTH guards together when #241 lands cstage literal typing -> symmetric
    accept.

Test 940_tuple_in_union: 4 K_RUN rows (variant 0, void arm, tuple at
variant 1 two ways) x cstage-run + wwstage-run + cs==ww byte-id, plus 2
K_BUILDERR rows (eightbyte-share, bare-literal) asserting a loud stop with
the #242 diagnostic on BOTH drivers = 16 ok.

19e6b68d03 w6c+wwstage: emit over-cap tuple return via sret callee-side (#10 Fold A)
A tuple return whose SysV register-return footprint exceeds the caps
(> 4 integer eightbytes or > 2 SSE eightbytes) previously LOUD-STOPPED
at the N_RETURN SEND. Fold A makes the CALLEE emit such a return through
the existing >24B-struct sret skeleton:

  - classifier (cg_sret_retsize / sretretsize) grows a TY_TUPLE arm:
    walk the element footprint over the SAME caps the SEND uses, and
    return the tuple's natural total size (type table) when over-cap,
    else 0. The gp/sse caps are factored to a single shared SSoT
    (TUPLE_GPCAP / TUPLE_SSECAP — cgen.c macros in cstage, cgen.ww defs
    in wwstage) consumed by the classifier AND every emit/receive site
    (the SEND, the destructure guards, the cgcall arg guard) — so
    classify and emit can't disagree in either stage.
  - the SEND replaces the loud-stop with a write-through: cgexpr each
    element, store it through *(@sretarg) at its packed layout offset
    (the t.0/t.1 positional layout), each at its natural width so a
    narrow tail stores MOVL/MOVB not an over-MOVQ (#169); the dest base
    reloads into DX each step since a wide element clobbers AX/BX/CX.
    Then the existing struct-sret epilogue (MOVQ @sretarg->AX; ret).
  - the prologue already wires @sretarg when the classifier is nonzero.

The CALL/receive side is deliberately untouched: the N_MLET/N_MASSIGN
destructure loud-stops stay, so an over-cap tuple return is not yet
usefully callable. The end-to-end round-trip arrives with Fold B (#10-B).

Symmetric cstage (cmd/w6c/cgen.c) + wwstage (cgen.ww / cgenstmt.ww /
cgenutil.ww); combined.ww amalgams regenerated. Test 798 asserts the
callee now COMPILES (no loud-stop) and w6c vs w6c_ww .s byte-identical
across all-wide, str, narrow-tail, and float-over-cap shapes; no runtime
row (uncallable until Fold B). All 236 pass incl. 990-997 byte-id.

954badd28f wwstage: name vararg-gather slots via mklabel; graduate fmt 777/780/781 (#227)
wwstage named variadic-gather slots with mkvarargname off a separate
varargseq counter, never bumping the shared labelseq that names match
labels. cstage names them via mklabel (cmd/w6c/cgen.c:5427,5431), which
advances labelseq twice per gather. So by the time main.main reached its
`match (wr)`, wwstage's match-label counter ran two behind cstage's
(_4/_5/_6 vs _6/_7/_8) — a pure label-numbering divergence that kept fmt
cs/ww byte-id failing.

Drop varargseq and the mkvarargname helper; call the existing mklabel
for the two gather slots, matching cstage's order (vararg_d only when
nvar>0, vararg_sl always). The slot names are locals-table keys only —
they resolve to BP offsets and never reach the asm — so only the
labelseq advance is observable, which is exactly what realigns the
downstream match labels. cstage untouched (align wwstage up).

This was the match-label half of fmt's divergence; with the earlier
compound-assign fix it completes fmt byte-identity. Graduate
777/780/781 to STAGE_CS|STAGE_WW with byte_id, and drop the now-stale
(void)asm_byte_identical guard in 777.

db9edb7c39 wwstage: classify tagged call-source by stamped result type, not callee leaf name (#211)
rhstaggedabicall keyed the tagged-vs-scalar call-source decision off the
callee result type looked up by leaf NAME (fnretlookupmod), with the
receiver variable used as the "module". A value-receiver fn-ptr field
call s.f(...) whose leaf collides with a same-named global fn then
mis-bound the global's register shape, so the source was misclassified
as scalar and widened wrong: silent cs/ww asm divergence and wrong
runtime. Read the checker-stamped N_CALL result type (src.type_)
instead, mirroring the N_DOT sister branch. cstage already reads u->ret
off the typed callee (cmd/wcc/check.c:1490) and harec selects by
interned type id, not name (ref/harec/src/types.c:714).

Graduates test/wcc/782 to STAGE_WW + byte_id.

1995d8e43a w6c+wwstage: zero high pad words on scalar/float widen into a >16B tagged union (#227)
cg_widen_tagged_store (cmd/w6c/cgen.c) and the wwstage twin cgwidentaggedstorebp (selfhost/cmd/wcc/cgenutil.ww) wrote only the tag (slot+0) and value (slot+8) in their scalar and float arms, leaving the high pad words (slot+16..sz) as stack garbage on the BP/let/assign/return-scratch path, which never pre-zeroes. A passthrough return or u8-reinterpret of a narrow scalar/float widened into a >16B union (fmt's field = (...formattable | *mods) is 32B via the str variant) then read that garbage. Both stages were wrong identically, so the byte-id gates stayed green while the runtime truncated; fmt's spread-union scalar widen is the first real consumer. Both arms now tail-zero slot+16..sz (gated size>16), mirroring the tagged-subset/struct tail-zeros and keeping the stages byte-identical (rule 10). Adds runtime test 793; regenerates w6c/wwdump combined.ww. fmt byte-id graduation still awaits the other residual, #226 (io.read nominal-remap).

45e5d74047 w6c+wwstage: tag a bare value widened into a NAMED-alias union variant via structural fallback (#15)
Variant selection (cg_tag_for_variant / flatvariantidxt) matched union variants by exact type only, so widening a bare value (e.g. *vtable) into a union with a NAMED ptr-alias variant (stream = *vtable, in handle = (file | stream)) found no match and the tag defaulted to 0 -- the wrong variant. In the compiler this hit emitbytes' io.write(&cgoutstream.vt) once io.write took a handle, writing the asm to a garbage fd -> empty .s -> w6c_ww miscompiled everything. Add a second selection pass: when the exact pass finds no variant, structurally compare the bare source against each NAMED-alias variant's unwrapped type; exact-match still wins in pass 1 (so a bare i64 stays the i64 variant, not oserror=!i64, which kept the os/errno union building). A >=2-structural-match collision guard (extending #218's) hard-errors LOUDLY on genuine nominal ambiguity (two ptr-aliases to the same struct) instead of silently first-picking, citing #199b/#10. Symmetric across cstage (cmd/w6c/cgen.c) and wwstage (selfhost/cmd/wcc/cgenutil.ww). One-level NAMED unwrap (chained ptr-aliases unmatched, unexercised -> #17). Adds test/wcc/789 (positive widen byte-id+runtime + degenerate-ambiguity reject guard, both stages). Unblocks post-eFinal #5's handle surface. rule-10 fix-up.

34c437fd63 wwstage: register error-structs in collectstructs so large-union struct-variant returns widen (#9)
collectstructs registered a struct only when the typedecl body is N_TSTRUCT, so an error-struct (type X = !struct{...}, whose body is N_TBANG{N_TSTRUCT}) never entered wwstage's c.structs table. The name-keyed structlookup then missed at the return-widen sites, and wwstage dropped the struct construction when returning a struct variant of a large (>4-eightbyte) union -- wrong runtime value and cs!=ww. cstage has no struct name-table (pure tinfo) and was correct. Peel the N_TBANG body in collectstructs so error-structs register; both existing cstage-mirrored widen arms then fire. Provably byte-id-inert: no committed source defines a !struct today. Adds test/wcc/785 (struct-variant return + named-void control, both-stage byte-id + runtime). The >4-eightbyte 5th-word truncation on return remains, symmetric (cs==ww) and unread by the tag/early-word path; #222's sret hidden-pointer cutover is the committed fix (table-retirement tracked as the wwstage->tinfo SSoT arc). Aligns wwstage up to cstage (rule-10).

80184a3acf wwstage: make the cgdot alias-peel struct-break module-aware (#223)
The wwstage cgdot #191 alias-peel loop broke on a name-keyed any-module
structlookup, so a receiver whose alias name collides with a struct of the
same name in ANOTHER module resolved to the foreign struct and fell through to
an undefined `name(SB)` global instead of the field load. The eFinal FLIP
renames io's `vstream` -> `stream`, which collides with memio's `stream`
struct, so io.read/io.write/io.close's `match (s.reader)` emitted
`MOVQ reader(SB), AX` (reader is also a type-alias) -> cs != ww (cstage chases
the nominal TY_NAMED.under pointer chain, module-correct). Gate-blind: on
master both stages emit the same wrong store so byte-id stays green; the FLIP
corpus is the first to put the io-alias/memio-struct collision in one build.

Fix (wwstage-only align-down; cstage is the authority and is untouched): make
the peel's struct-break MODULE-AWARE — break only on a same-module struct (a
genuine struct-value receiver); a same-module alias keeps peeling to its
underlying (io.stream -> *vtable -> the pointer field-load arm); a foreign leaf
keeps the prior any-module heuristic. New structsamemod / aliassamemod mirror
the same-module-first pass already in structlookup / aliaslookup. This is not a
naive alias-first reorder (which would reintroduce the mirror collision: a
same-module struct plus a foreign same-leaf alias). Peel-only — the direct-
struct arm's broader cross-module same-leaf-STRUCT name-keying is filed as #224.

#208-family (name-keyed resolution dropping to a wrong global) but in cgen, not
the checker; #213 is distinct (cosmetic local-struct-match divergence).

test/wcc/784_xmod_alias_struct_collide_run: collision (cross-module alias-vs-
struct, same leaf), symmetric (guards the same-module-struct break against a
naive reorder), and a no-collision control — branched callee. The discriminating
net is cs.s == ww.s (the path is gate-blind and cstage is correct, so byte-id
flips when wwstage is fixed); confirmed by source-revert. The FLIP's combined.ww
is now cs.s == ww.s byte-identical.

176904dffc w6c+wwstage: tag the outer widen of a nested multi-variant union (#218)
The outer widen of a NAMED multi-variant union value into an enclosing union
mis-tagged: the store took the tagged-subset path (inner value at slot+0 plus
a sub-variant remap, collapsing every inner sub-variant onto outer tag 0),
while the match-extract reads the nested layout (outer tag at +0, inner 16B
value at +8). Store and extract disagreed, so the match selected the first
arm. Pre-existing silent miscompile, latent because error-origination sites
(`let e: io.error = <leaf>; return e`) were gate-blind — no test discriminated
a freshly-originated error at a branched caller; the io vstream surface is the
first to do so.

Fix, both stages, byte-identical: cg_variant_match (cmd/w6c/cgen.c) and its
wwstage mirror cgvariantmatch (cgenutil.ww) fall back to structural equality
of the unwrapped tagged unions when the alias collapse loses nominal identity
(a NAMED outer variant vs an unwrapped-tagged source); the widen store now
writes the inner value at slot+8 and the outer tag at +0, matching the
extract. The inner union's build/payload/extract already worked (a destructure
through the outer round-trip recovers the inner payload) — only the
outer-widen store was wrong.

Collision guard (the fallback is unsound without it): structural matching
cannot disambiguate two nominally-distinct same-shape variants in one outer
union. That is unreachable under today's nominal-lossy collapse but inverts
the moment #199b lands the nominal layer, so if >=2 outer variants
structurally match the source we hard-error at compile time citing #199b —
both stages, an enforced invariant rather than a "rare, trust it" assumption.

Folds #219: the wwstage tinfo typeeq (lib/ww/typ.ww) had no TY_TAGGED branch
and fell through to `return true` (any two tagged unions compared equal);
cstage type_eq (type.c:269) has the structural branch. The structural fallback
above is the first and only caller to compare two bare tagged unions, so #219
is unexercised — and therefore ungateable — in isolation; it folds here per
the rule-11 couldn't-split carve-out (same structural reason as #206's
N_TTUPLE fold). The added branch mirrors cstage type_eq, tightening wwstage
into alignment.

test/wcc/925_nested_union_widen_run: outer-arm select, destructure-after-
propagation (payload survives the round-trip), destructure-let, single-variant
control, and the collision-guard compile-error, each with a cstage==wwstage
byte-id check (the path is gate-blind). Interim until #199b/B-full lands the
true nominal wrapped-slot layout.

66a91c8969 wcc: converge let-IDENT memcpy, IDENT-assign recv, nested struct call-recv onto structabisize
Three more wwstage cgen sites still used unrounded structnaturalsize where
cstage rounds via lu->size — pre-existing gate-blind cs!=ww latents the #169b
reviewer surfaced: cgenstmt N_LET struct-IDENT memcpy (let p2: T = p1; twin

39f9267bc9 wcc: converge DOT-recv, structlit-fill, and bare-let zero-init onto structabisize
Three wwstage cgen sites still used the unrounded structnaturalsize where cstage
rounds via lu->size (check.c:760), pre-existing gate-blind cs!=ww latents
flagged in #169's reviewer notes: cgenexpr DOT register-RECV for obj.f = mk()
(~5175/5393/5628/6164); cgstructlitfill's TK_ELLIPSIS zero-fill branch
(cgenutil); and cglet bare 'let z: T;' zero-init of a maxalign<8 struct
(cgenstmt). Each produced MOVQ-vs-MOVL or wider-write divergence vs cstage on
the trailing word of a sub-eightbyte tail.

Converge all three onto the maxalign-rounded structabisize the #169 work
established at the register-ABI sites (cite cstage cgen.c:7720 RECV twin +
cgen.c:2085 cg_structlit_fill). cgstructlitfill's signature drops the external
totsize parameter in favor of one internal source; the field-walk path is
untouched, only the ELLIPSIS zero-fill uses the ABI size. cglet's slot
allocation stays on the frame size; only the zero-fill extent uses ABI.

Gate-blind (the bootstrap exercises none of these shapes); covered by 5 new
rows in probe 698 with cs==ww .s byte-cmp and a pre-fix-rebuild proving the
exact MOVQ-vs-MOVL discrimination. 990-997 byte-id hold.

d92c199d25 wcc: retire exprfloatkind, read the checker stamp directly
exprfloatkind was wwstage cgen's structural float-classifier — a workaround for
the checker stamp being untrustworthy. With the previous commit arming the
asserttyped bail, every checked value-node is now stamped (or cited-exempt),
so its job collapses to a 2-liner reading n.type_ — the same path cstage cgen
has always taken. Retire it: inline the stamp-read at its eight sites (cgcast,
cgun, cgbin lhs+rhs, cgcall pop, pushargsrev, cgwidentaggedstorebp, cgreturn
x2 collapsed), delete the wrapper, and delete the two residual
sibling-evidence loud-aborts (cgbin float-arith, cgwidentaggedstorebp
float-arm) — their operands are real source value-exprs the armed bail now
stamps, so the guards can never fire.

One synth-post-checker value-node remained outside the bail's reach: the
variadic-slice descriptor pushed in pushargsrev/cgcall (cgenexpr.ww). Stamp
it at synthesis with the variadic param's []T slice tinfo so the inlined
reads see a stamped node, no nil special-case. Byte-id-neutral by design
(slice tinfo and nil both read non-float); 990-997 confirm.

Closes the bail-rearm arc — wwstage now reads the same float-class SSoT
cstage does, the gate-blind float-classification family is closed, and the
build+test corpus is asserttyped-clean by construction.

d4e500f61c wcc: struct ABI size maxalign-rounded via structabisize (#169)
wwstage struct-return RECV and RETURN used unrounded / round-to-8 sizes where
cstage uses the maxalign-rounded lu->size / rt->size, so a struct with maxalign
8 and a sub-8 tail (e.g. struct{i64,i32}) — or a maxalign<8 struct on the
return path — unpacked with a different trailing-word width (MOVL vs MOVQ)
between stages. Value-correct either way, but a cs!=ww asm divergence.

Add a dedicated structabisize = round(natural, maxalign) used only at the two
register-ABI sites. structnaturalsize stays unrounded: cstage's >24B sret and
memory-move path (cgen.c:8150, Task #33) genuinely uses the unrounded natural
size, so the two are different sizes — rounding the shared metric breaks 995.
maxalign derives from each field's tinfo.align (mirrors cstage check.c:708),
not an fsz ladder (a ladder over-rounds composite [N]u8 fields).

Gate-blind (no bootstrap struct hits the maxalign-8+tail shape) — the
discriminator is the cs==ww .s byte-cmp; covered by probe 698.

a917533fbf wcc: struct-param float fields via SSE arg regs (#165)
struct params were passed GP-only, so a struct{f64,f64} argument landed in
DI/SI instead of X0/X1 — value-correct for internal ww calls (the bits
round-trip) but not SysV register-class conformant. Add a per-eightbyte
classifier (struct_float_class) routing a qualifying struct's float eightbytes
through the SSE arg cursor, reusing #163's dual-cursor plumbing and #164's
field classification. A struct qualifies only when every eightbyte is
pure-integer or a lone f64 exactly filling it (and >=1 f64); anything else —
any f32, multiple floats per eightbyte, a straddling or aggregate field —
falls back to the unchanged GP path (f32 sub-eightbyte packing deferred #165b).
Both stages' predicates are alias-aware and identical in coverage.

Gate-blind and value-correct either way, so the discriminator is the callee's
receive instruction (MOVSD vs MOVQ), scoped per-function — covered by probe

Tuples were unhandled as parameters — no tuple arm in arg-push, arg-pop, or
callee-recv in either stage — so a tuple param fell to the 1-GP-word else and
dropped all but its first element (integer tuple params too; floats doubly
lost). Add tuple-param arms (SEND push+pop, callee RECV) across both stages,
reusing #164's per-element SysV classify with the 6-GP (DI,SI,DX,CX,R8,R9) +
8-SSE (X0-X7) arg cursors. A frame slot @tupargscr decouples the producing
call's return cursor from the overlapping arg cursor (capture-before-clobber).
Overflow (>6 GP / >8 SSE) fails loud (rule 7). Scoped to the N_CALL producer;
first-class tuple values (ident/literal) remain a separate unimplemented gap.

Gate-blind (the bootstrap passes no tuple params) — covered by table-driven
probe 905, which proves pre-fix element-drop and the loud-stop.

393ac1a882 wcc: nodeisunsigned N_CALL reads stamped type_ (#168)
Twin of #134 (N_INDEX arm): the wwstage signedness classifier did not
consult the checker-stamped type_ for an N_CALL result, so an
unsigned-returning call got signed IDIVQ/SARQ instead of DIVQ/SHRQ.
cstage was already correct (reads the stamped operand type; check.c:1433),
so this is a wwstage-only arm — symmetric outcome both stages.

Gate-blind (the bootstrap lacks the shape) — covered by table-driven
runtime probe 906, which also asserts w6c==w6c_ww .s byte-identity.

cbeffea7d8 wcc: 2D array [N][M]T static-init + double-index read (#156, A.3 capstone)
Close A.3's deferred shape-14 (nested array). (a) emit_array_lit_bytes
gains a TY_ARRAY-element arm (mechanical clone of the TY_STRUCT-element
arm — recurses; esz=etype->size, rule-13; ...-nested loud-reject). (b)
double-index read tbl[i][j]: when the indexed element is TY_ARRAY, leave
the sub-array ADDRESS in AX instead of dereferencing (sister of #135's
N_DOT-base fix, on the N_INDEX path) — new elemisarrayc/tinfoisarray
helpers, both stages. Storage + read = one 2D-end-to-end concern (A.2/A.3
storage+LOAD precedent).

Unblocks strconv fold-4's powers_of_ten[596][2]u64 (direct double-index
access). Bootstrap-NEUTRAL (new arms gate on TY_ARRAY-element; 1D
consumers byte-identical, 990-997 green). Test 919 +2D rows + 3D +
...-nested-reject. Deferred siblings: #155 (sub-array bind / whole-
aggregate copy), #160 (global-struct-field index base).

36bf60350c wcc: nodeisunsigned N_INDEX reads stamped type_ (#134)
wwstage cgenutil nodeisunsigned N_INDEX arm now reads
typeisunsigned(n.type_) directly, mirroring the N_DOT arm at line
1007 and cstage cgen.c:2541 which reads type_isunsigned on the
stamped operand. Embodies the #121 principle (collapse structural
onto stamp). Byte-id-neutral at master (no current N_INDEX-of-non-
IDENT-base unsigned compare sites in bootstrap); fix is for forward
consumers in strconv decimal.ha (>= 5u8 on d.digits[nd] with N_DOT
base) and similar Hare idioms. Closes #134.

0a2747ce5b wcc: collapse exprfloatkind structural body onto checker stamp (#121)
wwstage exprfloatkind now reads n.type_ via classifytinfo (typeisf32→1,
typeisfloat→2, else 0) — wwstage classifies float-ness from the cstage-
equal stamp; delete the 9-arm structural body + the transient bridge.

Permanent residual sibling-evidence guards: cgbin float-arith (primary,
fires on unstamped float operand), tupstore + cgwidentaggedstore float
arms (pins, unreachable today, contract assertions against future
regression). cgcast excluded (int→float CVTSI2SD legitimately nil-typed).

Closes the gate-blind cs≠ww float family root (STATUS:14, named (b)-phase
goal). Builds on 98e1665 (A-narrow N_IDENT destructure stamp) +
1c4cea4 (transient floatness-disagreement bridge).

Add classifytinfo(n.type_) stampkind alongside structural structkind;
abort on floatness-disagreement only ((structkind!=0)!=(stampkind!=0));

0917fee48d wcc: float array-element loads to X0 + indexed-float consumer (#119)
cgindex's element-load sites ended in the integer loadopsz (MOVQ/MOVL
into AX), with no float branch — so an f32/f64 array element landed in
a GPR while the consumer's ADDSD/MOVSD read a stale X0. Add a float-
element branch (MOVSS f32 / MOVSD f64 into X0) at all three wwstage
cgindex sites (global, baselocal, fallback) and both cstage N_INDEX
element-load sites, deriving float-ness from the SAME stamped element
tinfo the esz already reads: new elemisfloatc/elemisf32c helpers
(mirroring elemissignedc) for ident bases, typeisfloat/typeisf32(n.type_)
for N_DOT/N_INDEX bases — never a fresh node-stamp that could hit an
unstamped base (#121).

The load fix cannot land alone: the wwstage consumer (cgbin/cgcast)
classified an indexed float operand as INTEGER (no exprfloatkind N_INDEX
arm) and fell to PUSHQ/ADDQ/MOVSXD, while the cstage read the stamped
operand type and used ADDSD/CVTTSD2SI. That divergence is pre-existing
on master (proven: master cs vs ww already differ on `a[0]+a[1]`),
contradicting the original "consumer already expects X0, cs==ww"
premise; load-only would leave the wwstage incoherent (value in X0,
consumed from AX) and still cs!=ww. So this also adds the exprfloatkind
N_INDEX arm — safe because the index-result type_ IS checker-stamped
(cgindex reads it for esz), unlike the unstamped-N_MLET case deferred
under #121. With both, f64 arrays are runtime-correct and both stages
emit byte-identical asm.

946_floatarr_run: f64 element add / trunc / non-adjacent index assert
the value + cs==ww; the f32 row asserts cs==ww only — its runtime value
is blocked by a SEPARATE store-side bug (f32 array-element store writes
AX raw double low-bits instead of CVTSD2SS-narrowed X0), filed as
#119-store. Regen w6c/wwdump combined.ww (cgenexpr.ww + cgenutil.ww
embedded).

9a265a31f5 wcc: name-bind the size type in type position (#85 fold-2)
Resolve `size` -> TY_SIZE at the type-name resolver (C lookup_builtin /
ww tinfofornode's N_TNAME chain), mirroring uintptr, both stages. This
makes `size` writable as a type (`let x: size`, struct field, etc.),
the prerequisite for lib/types SIZE_MAX.

Twins every NAME-keyed uintptr arm in the wwstage so it behaves like
the cstage's kind-keyed Type switches (already TY_SIZE-aware from
fold-1): primtypesize + astalign (8B/8-align), primsize + letscalarprim
(8B scalar slot), isinttypeast + isnumerictname (int/numeric). rule-10
symmetric; dead on the size-free selfhost corpus so 990-997 stay byte-id.

Coexists with the size(T) size-of operator (separate c.top SK_FN seed +
N_CALL fold, NOT a type path) and `.size` field access (N_DOT); neither
touched. No c.top SK_TYPE "size" seed (would collide with the operator
seed at check.ww:96). Regenerates w6c/wwdump combined.ww (checker
embedded). New probe 957_size_type_run exercises type-position `size`
and the operator in one scope.

c9e39c6782 cgen: f64-typed int-literal + tuple-field materialize in X0 (both stages, #103)
Two sites, same class: an f64 value failing to reach XMM (X0) before an
SSE op. Both gate-blind — cstage and wwstage emitted the same wrong asm —
so the fix touches both stages identically.

FACE X — a no-decimal float-typed integer literal (`0f64`, `8f64`) is an
N_INTLIT carrying float TYPE. The integer-immediate path stranded it in
AX, so `n == 0f64` compared a stale X0 (true for all n) and
`(8f64 * 10.0): i32` read garbage. Route the float-typed N_INTLIT through
the float-constant-in-X0 emit (cgen.c cgexpr_float, factored from
N_FLOATLIT; cgenexpr.ww cgfloatbits). The wwstage also needs the
exprfloatkind N_INTLIT arm so the downstream f64->i32 cast emits
CVTTSD2SI not MOVSXD — cstage reads the checker-stamped type directly,
so this is the same #101 structural-vs-stamped asymmetry.

FACE Z — a tuple positional f64 field read (`r.0`, r:(f64,i64)) loaded
via the integer op into AX, so `r.0 == 0.0` was wrongly true. Add a
fld_isfloat branch -> MOVSD/MOVSS into X0 (cgen.c:5910 tuple arm;
cgenexpr.ww tuple arm), mirroring the struct-field float load at
cgen.c:1462,1838 (the #96 pattern).

7b3abf0ec5 cgen: wwstage fnretlookup resolves cross-module callee f64 return type (#98/#101)
exprfloatkind's N_CALL arm only set the callee name for an N_IDENT
callee, so a module-qualified `mod.g()` callee never reached any
return-type lookup and fell through to integer (kind 0). Both f64
consumers then took the integer path for an imported f64-returning
fn: cgcast emitted MOVSXD instead of CVTTSD2SI (#101), and pushargsrev
spilled the call result as a GPR PUSHQ/POPQ instead of the MOVSD float
spill (#98) — one root, two symptoms.

Route the N_DOT callee through fnretlookupmod with the module
qualifier, mirroring nodeisslice / nodeisstr's #34 N_DOT arm, so a
cross-module f64 call resolves to kind 2 exactly like same-module
already does. This aligns wwstage UP to cstage, whose cg_isfloat reads
the resolved call result type directly (cmd/w6c/cgen.c:117,155) and is
correct for both cases. Consumers (cgcast, pushargsrev) unchanged.
2026-05-25 13:48:31 +09:00
ab9de65b8e cgen: sub-slice ptr = base + lo*esz (both stages, #76)
A sub-slice base[lo:hi] advanced its data pointer by lo (element
COUNT) instead of lo*esz (BYTES), so the base pointer was wrong for
any esz>1 element. Pointer arithmetic is membsz-unit per the rt
invariant (ref/hare/rt/ensure.ha:30); esz==1 (u8/str) is unchanged.

Four emission sites, fixed byte-identically across stages (rule 10):
  - value path:  cmd/w6c/cgen.c N_SLICE  <-> cgenexpr.ww cgslice
  - call-arg:    cmd/w6c/cgen.c:4646     <-> cgenutil.ww pushargsrev

Scaling mirrors the cgindex idiom: esz from the type table (rule 13;
cstage bu->sub->size, wwstage elemsizeofc) gated to an N_IDENT base,
uniform IMULQ (no SHL special-case, no immediate form -- w6a is
reg-reg only). The live lo reg is the multiplicand so the one free
GP (DX value / BX arg) holds esz*lo; lo is preserved for len (hi-lo)
and cap (base_cap-lo, #20). The esz==1 path keeps the single ADDQ,
byte-identical to before (#75/#20/str unaffected). Non-ident bases
stay unscaled in both stages (wwstage has no tnode there), tracked
as a #76 residual alongside #74.

New 943_subslice_ptresz_run: table-driven, dual-driver (ww/ww_ww),
esz in {2,4,8} array+slice base, lo>0, let-form + call-arg form;
asserts s[0]==base[lo] & s[1]==base[lo+1]. Fails on every fixture
pre-fix on both stages, passes post-fix. Registered in Makefile
(TESTS + target) so test/run builds and runs it.
2026-05-25 02:36:54 +09:00
8b23ff3517 cgen: sub-slice cap = base_cap - lo
A sub-slice `base[lo:hi]` now sets cap to base_cap - lo (the storage
remaining to the underlying end; Go/Hare-identical) instead of hi - lo
(== len). base_cap is the array length N for [N]T, or the .capacity
word carried in a slice/str header at +16. Authored once per stage in
the cg_base_cap / cgbasecap helper, applied at both cap sites: the
N_SLICE value path (which serves let-init since the prior commit) and
the call-arg push. Both stages stay byte-identical (find-4 closed).

cap arithmetic per ref/harec/src/eval.c:1017 (slice: slice.cap -=
start) and eval.c:1024 (array: cap = array.length - start); capacity
is a distinct field per ref/hare/rt/ensure.ha:4-8 and cap >= len per
ref/harec/src/check.c:596. Only the cap arithmetic transfers: the ptr
stays unscaled (lo*esz is #76) and eval.c's stricter start>=end bound
is not ported (ww's runtime bound is start>end).

str[lo:hi] yields str with a real .capacity (D1), so the str base uses
the same +16 load -- no downgrade to []u8. base_cap falls back to len
(prior behavior) where it isn't cleanly available: a non-ident base
(its header cap was discarded by cgexpr; len is likewise wrong for a
defaulted hi there, pre-existing) and a global str base (wwstage
cgslice has no global-str load, #73 -- the carve-out keeps both
stages byte-identical).

Test: 942_subslice_cap_run, table-driven over both drivers, array /
slice / str base + an append-no-realloc row, each shape chosen so
base_cap-lo != hi-lo.

Fold in three pre-existing fixtures that asserted the old cap == len
and so failed under the corrected semantics (project #20):
681_arr_elem_field_write (slice_field_value_write,
slice_field_ptr_write, slice_field_distinct_bytes),
693_dot_tagged_source (local_struct_slice_variant,
via_ptr_slice_variant, letinit_slice_roundtrip, top_level_global_slice),
and 695_match_bind_struct (slice_neg_control). Each cap word updated to
base_cap - lo: a [8]u8 base sliced at lo=0 yields cap 8 (5->8, 3->8);
distinct_bytes slices a [16]u8 at lo=0, yielding cap 16 (6->16). len /
mark / ptr assertions are unchanged -- only the cap word moved.

3637993bb2 cgen: collapse redundant TY_STR esz special-cases onto str.sub -- Phase 2 step-3 Fold 2
F1 set str.sub = u8; the str-element-size readers no longer need a TY_STR special-case. cstage: delete the two 'if (kind==TY_STR) esz = ty_u8->size' blocks -- the general 'esz = sub->size' path already yields 1 for str (str.sub=u8), as the third index site (which never had the special-case) proves. Provably byte-id-NEUTRAL for ALL inputs: ty_str is the sole TY_STR instance and str.sub==ty_u8, so sub->size==ty_u8->size==1 in every case. No kind-gate (type_isstr/isstrtype arm-selectors) touched.

wwstage elemsizeof (cgenutil.ww) is COMMENT-ONLY: it names primtypesize("u8") directly because it operates on a raw type node with no stamped tinfo at the ident-base index path (str.sub lives on .type_.sub, unstamped here -- cf. cgforrange's 'if sti != nil'); that IS the str.sub-equivalent value, identical asm. Added the WHY + retargeted the citation to the surviving cstage path. The structural collapse there is blocked on tinfo-stamping, not intent -- filed (task #24); byte-id 990-997 guards the residual coupling.

Zero asm change both stages (cstage/wwstage .s byte-identical pre/post and cross-stage). main.combined.ww regenerated via the canonical make path (comment propagation only).

b416e7114e cgen: fold str tagged-variant payload store onto slice arm (both stages)
Phase 2 step 4. The str and slice tagged-union payload stores were
byte-identical adjacent arms (3-word ptr/len/cap @ slot+8/+16/+24 +
tag) since #1 made str a 24B {ptr,len,cap}. Delete the dedicated str
arm and widen the slice arm's gate to accept str (cstage type_isstr,
wwstage nodeisstr). One site, both stages. Byte-id-neutral: str now
flows the identical slice arm; full test incl 990-997 green.
2026-05-24 09:00:53 +09:00
a5ca21ddba cgen: str index-stride via type table, not literal 1 (both stages)
Phase 2 step 2. The N_INDEX element-stride for str hardcoded esz=1;
route it through the type table (cstage ty_u8->size, wwstage
primtypesize("u8")) so str's element width tracks the u8 SSoT. When
the TY_STR collapse (Phase 2 step 5) folds str onto the slice-of-u8
path, these sites need no second edit. Byte-id-neutral: u8 size is 1,
so emitted stride is unchanged; full test (incl 990-997 byte-id
gates) green.

1140a590bf wcc: str -> 24B {ptr,len,cap}, 3-reg ABI -- parity with []u8 (both stages)
A ww `str` becomes a 24-byte {ptr,len,cap} value, identical in layout to
[]u8 -- the enabling prerequisite for the Phase 2 `str == []u8` collapse.

Both stages, atomically:
- ty_str 16->24B; str value flows 3-reg AX/BX/CX (was 2-reg); str literals
  emit cap (=len).
- str in a tagged union grows to a 32B slot, using the AX/DX/CX/R8 4th-word
  path already used by 32B slice-variant unions -- str-variant is now
  structurally identical.
- tuple (scalar,str) return: 4-reg AX/DX/CX/R8 + 32B receive, extending the
  existing type-keyed return (no sret).
- str == []u8 for index and .ptr/.len/.cap, kind-gated where size-based
  dispatch collided at 24B; cstage and wwstage mirror exactly.
- table-driven runtime coverage: test/wcc/928_str_abi_run.c.

Cannot be split (rule 10/11): a 24B str and a 16B str cannot coexist across
the two compiler stages without breaking byte-identity, so the size change
and every dependent ABI/codegen site land in one atomic commit, both stages.

Known follow-ups (zero corpus impact, tracked): str-literal global .cap
static-init; >16B struct by-value (pre-existing); tagged-union
match-scrutinee stage divergence (pre-existing).

f45caf1cd9 selfhost/cmd/wcc: index-base esz from n.type_.size + delete indexbaseesz (#72, A.6.3k)
The N_INDEX node carries the checker-stamped element tinfo (#60 arc); cgindex,
cgun TK_AMP, and cgassign now read the element stride off that .type_.size
instead of indexbaseesz's manual N_DOT-pseudo-field + structlookup walk,
retiring the helper (0 callers, ~96 LOC). Aligns down to cstage's
idx_eff(base->type)->sub->size (cmd/w6c/cgen.c:3517-18, natural element size) --
strictly more cstage-faithful than indexbaseesz's totsize/slotsize derivation
(byte-id held only because firing shapes have totsize==natural; cstage reads
natural and ww-old==cstage, so the flip is structural). Each site keeps its
nil->default-8 fallback; cgindex stays esz-only (signed_elem unset for the
N_DOT base, as before).

Closes the A.6.3 cgenutil-collapse arc: every type/size/offset query in cgen
now reads the checker-stamped tinfo, and the AST-walker / structinfo-walk
helpers it replaced (dotfieldtnode, indexvaluetnode, rhstargetname,
dotinnerstructptr, indexbaseesz) are retired. make test 134/134, byte-id

0763377806 selfhost/cmd/wcc: dotchainresolve walks tinfo.fields (#71, A.6.3j)
The chained value-struct spine-walker resolved root + total offset + leaf
type via structinfo/fieldinfo (slot-padded foff). Swap its guts onto the
stamped root-ident type_: peel TY_NAMED to TY_STRUCT (one TY_PTR hop for a
*struct root) and accumulate tfield.offset down the spine, mirroring cstage's
cur->lhs->type fields walk (cmd/w6c/cgen.c:3156-3216 write, :1955-2030 AMP/
read). Leaf out-param becomes *tinfo; the three callers read leaf-ness via
typeis*/loadopsz, and the cgassign struct-terminal recovers the struct name
from the leaf tinfo's NAMED wrapper for the still-structinfo cgstructlitfill.

Root classification (local/ptr/global) is unchanged, so the firing set and
addressing mode stay byte-identical; the global-root path remains its pre-
existing shared breakage (#27), untouched. Natural tfield.offset equals the
old slot-padded foff for every shape the byte-id gate exercises -- and since
cstage already reads the natural offset and ww-old==cstage held, the flip is
structurally identical, not coincidental.

Latent (off-corpus, byte-id-neutral): the tinfo-peel now fires the str/slice
pseudo-leaf on an aliased-str/slice field where the old structinfo path
bailed -- a faithful-toward-cstage gap closure, filed for a probe + sentinel.
