Every surviving carrier now owns its artifacts: checked mkdir/mkdtemp/
fopen acquisition, one all-exit cleanup funnel per carrier, ENOENT-
tolerant checked unlinks, exact-path deletion (rm -rf only for an
owned pid-keyed dir or a .sepwork beneath one), and cleanup failure
fails a passing carrier without overwriting its diagnostic. In the
same pass the carriers adapt to the driver contract this branch lands:
--sep and WW_PKGCACHE are gone, -S and the /tmp/ww_run_<pid> scratch
contract are asserted, and rows whose runtime or reject coverage moved
to test/wcc/data fixtures or test/lang @test owners are trimmed to the
byte/artifact/diagnostic observations only they can make.
Repair and adaptation ride together because most files interleave both
in the same hunks; splitting would manufacture intermediate carrier
states that never existed and cannot run against either driver.
Flip the soft-default to a hard "missing package clause" error symmetrically in
both stages (cmd/wcc/parse.c + lib/ww/syntax/parse.ww): the first real decl of a
primary section with empty pathmod/resetmod and no seen clause is now rejected.
Closes the documented soft-default divergence (the 63-wrapper carve-out).
The gate flip can't be split from the migration it breaks, so this is one atomic
commit: ~80 test/wcc wrappers gain `package main;` via a shared wwtestpkg.h
helper, 6 data fixtures plus 17 asm-grep assertions update for the bare->main.<leaf>
root-helper mangle shift, and rt/ declares `package rt;` with @symbol pinning the
bare rt_ensure/rt_malloc linker names.
Root mangling narrows: the executable entry `main` stays bare (existing
carve-out), but root helper symbols become main.X. The #84 cluster is rewritten
to assert main.run distinct from aa.run/test.run; its cgen fix and bare machinery
are retained — still load-bearing for package-less module-reset deps. New
table-driven test 782_strict_package.c (6 rows, both stages).
Retiring //ww:module-reset is deferred to #24b: it is load-bearing (clears the
.wwi pathmod so the body's package clause asserts), not a vestige; fusing its
removal here would be a silent mismatch.
All byte-id gates green; full make test reports "all 335 tests passed".
94a of the C-mig2 split (rob rule-11): 13 Pattern-A gates that fed a
.combined.ww to w6c/w6c_ww now drive two --sep builds (ww / ww_ww) and
byte-diff the concatenated per-package .sepwork/*.s, mirroring #93's
convention. Lands pre-flip while combined.ww still exists as the
reversible safety net. Test-only; all 5 binary pins HOLD.
989_enumcap_run deferred to 94b (its decisive assertion is a combined.ww
content diff, not a .s diff).
Assigning a >24B by-value struct-return into a GLOBAL lvalue dropped the
struct body: the sret dest was routed to a BP scratch temp and only the
8-byte return pointer was stored (`MOVQ AX, g(SB)`); the callee wrote the full
struct to the scratch, which never reached the global. A BP-relative dest
offset cannot name a global symbol. Pre-existing GATE-BLIND silent miscompile
— both stages emit the same broken store, so byte-id (990-997) stays green
while runtime is wrong — latent until the eFinal io surface put a global
`cgoutstream: memio.stream` (>24B) on the path, where it made cgen.ww's
self-built w6c_ww buffer every function body into a corrupt global (pos stayed
0) and emit prologue-only output.
Fix, both stages, byte-identical: route the sret dest pointer to the global
symbol so the callee writes the full struct through RDI straight into the
global. cstage adds cg_sret_dest_sym, mirroring the existing str/slice global
arm (skip the @sretscr scratch, emit `LEAQ masym(sym), DI`). wwstage carries
the lhs IDENT node (sretdestnode) and emits `LEAQ name(SB), DI` via emitsymname
— identical to cstage's symbol mangling, verified cs.s==ww.s on the probe and
across 990-997. #211-family (by-value struct + global/pointer), but a distinct
site: the cstage assignment-store into a global, not the wwstage call-return.
N_LET-global static-init (`let g: T = mk()` at top level) is a separate,
independently-broken path (#221) — link-fails for init-via-call, returns 0 for
constant init — not the sret-receive gap and not on the eFinal path; deferred.
test/wcc/940_global_sret_run: global assign (plus a branched callee to defeat
const-fold), through-pointer mutation (the io vtable-callback shape that
surfaced this), and local-init/assign regressions — runtime asserts on both
stages (the net, since byte-id is gate-blind here) plus cs.s==ww.s.
Discrimination confirmed by revert+rebuild: with the global arm disabled,
global_assign emits the truncated store and exits 1.
